The History of Our Villages
In the Millennium year 2000, the Sheldwich Parish Council learned that a body called ‘Awards for All’ was offering Lottery money in the form of a grant to local organisations, to undertake projects which were judged to be beneficial to communities such as our villages. The Parish Council put together a successful bid for £3000 to finance a Village Appraisal and to supplement it with a short history of the last 1000 years in our villages. Mike Johnson, who had been wanting both the excuse and the motivation to research village history, offered to put such a booklet together - again to be made available free of charge to all villagers, schoolchildren and other interested bodies.
