Here is an interactive plan of St James' Church Sheldwich.

You can click on some parts of the plan to obtain more details of the building and its history.

In the time of Archbishop Lanfranc (1070-89) Sheldwich had a chapel connected with Faversham church. After a destructive fire at St Augustine's Canterbury on August 29th 1168, Pope Alexander III gave this chapel to the Abbey. In 1305 when Archbishop Peckam gave an endowment to Faversham, he arranged that all the collections made at the first mass of the 'lords and ladies of the 13 tenements at Sheldwich' should go there. But before the time of King Richard (1377-99) Sheldwich was a parish in its own right.
